Seventeen, Matthew Whittet’s award-winning play, is a standout in Australian theatre. Set over one day, it follows a group of seventeen-year-olds, brought to life by a mature aged cast, as they navigate identity, friendship, love, and societal pressures. This poignant work captures the bittersweet nature of youth, blending self-discovery with the ache of growing apart. It resonates across generations: younger audiences see their present reflected, while older viewers revisit their past. More than just a play, Seventeen is a celebration of Australian storytelling, offering a nostalgic lens on youth, serving as both celebration and examination of such a pivotal time in life. Its witty dialogue and emotional depth transcend age, inviting anyone who’s weathered the storm of teenage years to reflect, laugh, and feel. Seventeen is a compelling yet sentimental exploration of youth and is sure to linger in the hearts of audiences long after the play is over.

Siblings, Marshall and Tess are in the process of settling their late parents’ estate. What better way of offloading household items quickly, they think, than the trusty Saturday morning garage sale. Neither of them is excited about the prospect of a bunch of strangers pawing over their parent’s belongings, but they realise it’s probably the easiest and quickest way to move the generational accumulation of ‘stuff’ they’ve grown up with and taken for granted over the years. Along the way, as items sell, memories are triggered - both good and bad, and secrets are revealed. The idea for Everything Must Go was hatched during our own garage sale a few years ago. As we observed people coming and going and wondered what their stories were, or chatted with them and discovered those stories, we thought it was a great setting to tell this story of ordinary people dealing with what life throws at them and moving on, in their own way and in their own time.

Martin McDonagh’s The Lieutenant of Inishmore is a brutal and darkly comic play set in 1993 on a remote island off the coast of Ireland. It follows Padraic, a violent and unpredictable Irish nationalist, who abandons his torture duties upon hearing that his beloved cat, Wee Thomas, is ill. When he returns home to discover the cat is actually dead, his grief spirals into a blood-soaked quest for vengeance. As Padraic interrogates and punishes those he suspects, the play exposes the absurdity of political extremism and the twisted priorities of militant ideology—where a pet’s death triggers more outrage than human suffering. With explosive violence, razorsharp dialogue, and pitch-black humour, McDonagh crafts a savage satire that critiques fanaticism while
keeping audiences both horrified and laughing.

Mike is the undisputed ‘King’ of mid-morning radio. He’s been on a 2-week sabbatical to Fiji (for an Anger Management Program) and can’t wait to pick up where he left off - belittling the Station Manager, flirting with the new young trainee producer and basically saying whatever he wants to whomever he wants. But times are changing and days of chauvinistic men in the workplace are numbered. Jez is a young podcaster and after her next big expose of men behaving badly. Is Mike next on her hit list? Mike can’t believe anyone would come for him, after all he has a loyal fan base, and “everyone” loves him. Or do they… Will his inability to change ultimately be his undoing? Sydney based author Melanie Tait (The Appleton Ladies Potato Race and The Queen’s Nanny) weaves humour
through her biting insight of the world of workplace power imbalance, garnered from her early career in journalism and broadcasting with the ABC.

Tonight, is The Middling Cove Players opening night of their next production Midnight Murder at Hamlington Hall, however 7 of the cast have called in sick, but as they say “The Show Must Go On". With only the Director and two cast members left standing they decide that the show really MUST go on and with the help of the reluctant stage manager, her teenage niece and an unwilling audience member, opening night forges ahead. There is a lot at stake as this is the night the council are coming to review whether to let the Players keep using the hall or to let it out to a local fitness group instead. With a little script adjustment, they push through the scenes with all the pitfalls of community theatre, ill-fitting costumes, missing lines, missing sound effects, bad acting, bad wigs, the list goes on as the performance takes shape in this hilarious comedy that reflects the commitment, the determination, the friendship, and the chaos that live theatre can be.
